![]() On May 31st, 2011, the Serious Sam Facebook page was created, which gained over 58,400 likes over the next six years. On November 6th, the /r/SeriousSam subreddit was launched for discussions about the games. On October 4th, the Serious Sam Wiki launched on Wikia. In August 2009, the Twitter feed was created. The game received mixed to positive reviews, maintaining a 70 average critic score with 32 reviews on Metacritic on the day of the release. The game features a Legion System, a game engine feature that the player to face tens of thousands of enemy units. The game follows the journey of Serious Sam as he and his allies seek to obtain the Holy Grail, a powerful alien artifact. ![]() The game serves as a prequel to Serious Sam 3 and is chronologically the earliest game in the series. On September 24th, 2020, Croteam released Serious Sam 4, the fourth major installment in the series (trailer shown below, left). Additionally, 7 other spin-offs have been made by various indie developers. The story takes place before The First Encounter, Earth is losing the fight against Mental and their only hope is to send Sam to the past via the Time-Lock to assassinate Mental. Serious Sam 3 had a vague development history, Croteam started working on the Serious Engine 3 in 2006, but they made no word about Serious Sam 3 until 2009, which had a budget of about $500,000. Serious Sam 2 began development in 2003 after the release of the Xbox port of the first 2 games and was released on October of 2005, the story takes place right after the end of TSE, Serious Sam gets summoned by the Sirian High Council informing him that will need a medallion in order to stop Mental, the only problem is that the medallion was split into 5 parts which Sam needs to recover. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released nearly a year after the success of TFE, originally being the other half of the latter the story takes place right after the end of TFE, Serious Sam is on his way to Mental's homeworld until he crashes with a crate-bus of Croteam Big Heads, causing him to crash land back into Earth, without any other option, Sam heads to find the backup ship of the Sirians in order for him to continue his quest to stop Mental. The story of TFE takes place in Egypt, Serious Sam goes to the past using an alien artifact known as the "Time-Lock" that allows him to travel back in time so he could assassinate Mental in the past, not knowing that by traveling back, he would wake up the hibernating Mental of that time. The game became a huge success and received multiple awards, including one from IGN, partially because of its $20 USD price tag. In March 2001, Serious Sam: The First Encounter was released to wide acclaim. Development continued as normal, despite the name change. In the Flesh became Serious Sam in 1998, when Roman Ribarić, Croteam's CEO “received a vision” that told them to rename In the Flesh into “Serious Sam”. The development went on and off because the early Croteam consisted of university students and the occasional person drafted into the military. The idea was to combine modern graphics with Doom's frantic, enemy horde-themed gameplay. ![]() Fantastic.Serious Sam began development in 1996 as a game called In the Flesh. TL DR Weapons don't switch the same way they did in the classics and it's pi$$ing me off. I've seen that Serious Dan replies to some of these, so hopefully this one gets noticed. Also, one last thing, the pump shotgun DOES fire slower, right? Not just me? That's annoying too with the enemy multiplier and whatnot added. Other than that I love this game, absolutely worthy of the Serious Sam title. It's not THAT big a deal, but it just.why was that a change? I read something in the patches about being able to rebind the weapon wheel or something about rebinding weapons but.I haven't found anything pertaining to exactly this issue I'm bringing up. It's just.weird flipping through with the mouse wheel or binds and having the WRONG weapon in the heat of a battle. Also, when I go back to the previous titles it's like I need to re-learn the whole way I think again. A mentally focused game like Serious Sam, this is way more of a problem. This all sounds very minute and silly of me to drone on and on about, but hear me out. That's now reversed and it takes TWO taps for me to get to it. Why are the weapons over and under different now? Back in every other game it was double shotgun OVER single shotgun. I haven't seen anyone else address this and it's really beginning to bug me. This is an issue I saw touched on ONCE by the Youtube Man himself FrameRater.

On my do-over I slid in some long strips of scrap wood and a flat metal square to shield the wood. It was at this point the first time around that I learned another lesson from the school of hard knocks – protect the plywood! It’s a relatively soft wood, and the clamps leave circular craters if pressed directly into it. So take it from me & my mulligan – don’t get glue on anywhere that you're gonna see later! Step 4: Clamp it togetherĪfter the pieces are assembled and the edges are neatly aligned, the shelf needs to be clamped together while the glue dries. Imagine my deep dismay when I thought I was almost done and then my first coat of stain revealed giant, hideous blotches. It looked so bad I had to start over. That’s actually a lie – the first time I made this shelf I was not careful with the glue cleanup and learned the hard way that Gorilla Wood Glue isn’t stainable. I used a lot of glue to get a really strong hold but I was careful not to get it on ANYTHING that would be visible in the final product. Kyle is sent on a daring mission, whilst the newly created 7th Fleet is sent deep into Terran territory to take out their shipping. ![]() Kyle Roberts is finally put to the test in this book, as the Alliance decide to strike back, going on the offensive, they suddenly find that they have been pulled into an interesting situation, a chance to end Terran control of the Sector, but also the chance for the Terran’s to cause some major damage. whilst Weber seems to have lost his way somewhat and not know how to provide a satisfying ending to his ever growing series (mostly expanding in the middle and reaching no conclusion).Īs long as Stewart keeps giving us positive (happy) experiences and the drama lightened with a side story or two, I fully expect to continue buying these enjoyable books and rating them equally highly. This was an incredibly intense book, one that once you get into, you find that you have a hard time actually putting down with all the amazing battles, and the effect of certain outcomes. I am definitely continuing with the next couple of books in the series (already bought them!) Not quite as good as David Weber's Honor Harrington books but I can hope that Stewart manages to complete the story. Overall, I would probably give this particular book a rating of about 4.3 but its place as part of the series has meant that I have erred on the side of generosity to scrape it in with the full 5 star rating. This always was going to be a military space opera and the central character, Kyle Roberts is likeable, flawed but knows he could be better and generally gets things right by finding solutions to seemingly dire situations. A minority of reviewers have said that the characterisations are weak but I didn't notice that and those people that the author wanted us to focus upon seemed to be expanded to a suitable level. This one was a bit darker than the previous two episodes but lightened by a love story percolating in the background. The saga continues with this third book in the series and I have to confess that I am pretty much gripped by now. This 3rd instalment is by far the best in the series so far and is worth reading the entire series for, as it is an exceptionally brilliant book based around some of the best starship combat to date. The dialogue between the characters has developed with each novel, getting stronger, more realistic still with a good degree of humour which has been one of the highlights of this series, but tempered with a very real understanding of the life and death situations they are facing. Stewart must have spent hours planning the fine detail of the battles and laying out the very ships to have been able to describe these battles with such intricate detail.Īs with the 2nd story, the characters continue to grow, gaining more depth, Kyle now having relationships with not just his estranged ex-partner and son, but now a real partner. The other thing with Stewart’s books is that he doesn’t just take out the side-kicks or the redshirts, main characters die as well, so you never know what is going to happen, increasing the tension of the story.Īdded to that is the detailed strategy and tactics, not just detailed in the telling of the story, but discussed by the characters on both sides, giving you a unique perspective of the battle field as these incredible conflicts unfold with such exquisite detail. It is not just the descriptions of the actual battles, the technical details and the incredible accounts of missile by missile strikes, it is the characters, their input and reactions, the sheer tension he generates as fighters and capital ships launch thousands of missiles in a desperate struggle to survive. ![]() This was an incredibly intense book, one that once you get into, you find that you have a hard time actually putting down with all the amazing battles, and the effect of certain outcomes. ![]() It is so exciting to see all the faces in the audience this week. Wind turbine blades are the main energy conversion components in wind energy infrastructure, and their design directly determines the efficiency of wind turbines to obtain wind energy. The airfoil with optimal flap leads to a smaller separation vortex and wake vortex, therefore delaying the dynamic stall effect.Īs one of the main clean and renewable resources, wind energy plays a positive role in adjusting the energy consumption structure and promoting ecological civilization. The calculation results show that the optimal flap obtained by RSM increases the pressure difference between the suction and the pressure surfaces at large AOA, suppresses flow separation on the suction surface, and delays the stall AOA. The clean airfoil and the airfoil with optimal flap are compared and analyzed from the static and dynamic aerodynamic characteristics by numerical simulation. Multivariate quadratic polynomials are used to carry out equation regression analysis on the combined results of 17 sample schemes, and the mathematical surrogate model between the flap structure parameters and the airfoil lift–drag ratio and the optimal design parameter combination of the flap structure are obtained. The lift–drag ratio of an airfoil is taken as the optimization response target, and the Box–Behnken design is adopted to design the experiment scheme for H, D, and θ. The response surface methodology (RSM) optimization of H, D, and θ is conducted. A self-popped up flap is added to the airfoil (S809) suction surface to improve aerodynamic performance under large angle of attack (AOA) inspired by the slightly popped up feathers on the trailing edge of a bird’s wing. |
